Gov. Tony Evers will Address Proposal on Decriminalizing Marijuana on Monday Feb. 18

MADISON, Wis. (WFRV) – Governor Tony Evers, state Sen. Jon Erpenbach, state Reps. Chris Taylor and David Crowley, and stakeholders will host a press conference on Monday, February 18, at 10 a.m.  in the Capitol rotunda to discuss the governor’s proposal to reform Wisconsin’s marijuana laws.

A press release sent out on Sunday says the governor’s budget proposal will:

  • Include a medical marijuana program that will be regulated and administered through the departments of Health Services (DHS) and Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP);
  • Decriminalize possession, manufacturing or distribution of marijuana for amounts of 25 grams or less;
  • Establish an expungement procedure for individuals convicted of possessing, manufacturing or distributing less than 25 grams of marijuana who have completed their sentence or probation;
  • Align Wisconsin’s laws on cannabidiol, also known as CBD oil, with federal standards.
