New store specializing in hemp and CBD oil coming to La Crosse

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — – Local entrepreneurs are opening a new store in La Crosse specializing in hemp and cannabidiol oil, better known as CBD oil.

The global industry is expected to be worth more than $10 billion by 2025, according to a new report by Grand View Research, Inc.

CBD oil, which is extracted from the marijuana plant, is currently being sold to treat a variety of symptoms, from pain relief to anxiety.

Two entrepreneurs we spoke with, Matt Boshcka and Brady Blankenship, said they can’t wait to open their new store, Cannabiz Depot.

“We want to showcase just how awesome hemp is and high multiversed it is,” Boshcka said.

Boshcka wants his store to be the largest all-hemp retail outlet in the Midwest.

“We’re going to be selling anything from hemp-related food and beverages, hemp-related wellness and health products and a full line of CBD products,” Boshcka said.

According to WebMD, hemp is high in protein, unsaturated fats, fiber and minerals and vitamins which Boshcka says makes it ideal for food products.

“Hemp seeds, they’re very high in omega-6 and omega-3’s, With our hemp protein powders, it’s vegan, it’s high in protein and it’s super affordable,” Boshcka said.

He and his two business partners are opening the new store in the old Stamp N Hand building in downtown La Crosse.

One of his business partners, Blankenship, has been wanting to open this business for a long time.

“I’m excited about just being a business owner and being able to help people and just work downtown, talk to people and educate people about what we’re doing,” Blankenship said.

Even though Boshcka thinks it will cost around $100,000 to get the shop up and running, he’s confident they’ll more than make their money back.

“You’re going to see a lot of people getting into this green rush, they’re calling it, and we wanted to be a part of that and not looking back when the market is saturated in three or four years,” Boshcka said.

Both Blankenship and Boshcka want people to know that CBD oil doesn’t make you high, which is why they say people shouldn’t be afraid to try it.

“It’s not the taboo devil weed, where you’re just sitting on the couch smoking joints and eating potato chips all day. That’s not what this plant is all about,” Boshcka said.

Medical experts say there is still a lot of research that needs to be done on the effectiveness of CBD oil.

The Mayo Clinic says CBD oil can cause a variety of side effects, such as drowsiness and fatigue, and it may interact with other medications, so they recommend talking with your doctor before using products that contain CBD.

Boshcka and Blankenship hope to have their store open by April 1 and will be holding their grand opening April 20.

They also hope to launch a website near that time so people can buy their products online.
